How to Write a Resume With No Work Experience
Every working professional once had a resume with no jobs on it. Employers hiring for entry-level roles know that; what they look for instead is proof you can learn, finish things and work with people. You probably have more of that proof than you think.
Find your experience (it isn't only jobs)
- Academic, personal or open-source projects
- Internships, apprenticeships and industrial training
- Freelance or family-business work, tuition, event organising
- Volunteering, NSS/NCC, clubs and student committees
- Competitions, hackathons, case-study contests
- Online courses with a finished project or certificate
Use a skills-and-projects-first layout
Put a short summary, then education, then projects, then any internships or activities, then skills. Give your projects the same treatment as jobs: a title, dates, the tools, and bullets that describe what you did and what happened as a result.
Write bullets with results, even small ones
"Organised the college tech fest" becomes "Coordinated a 12-person team and 30 volunteers for a two-day tech fest with 1,500 visitors; handled sponsor outreach that raised ₹2 lakh." Small numbers still show scale and responsibility.
Back it up with a link
A GitHub profile, design portfolio or simple personal website gives a recruiter something to click. It turns "built a weather app" into something they can actually see working — which matters most when you have no employer to vouch for you. You can turn your resume into a free portfolio website on CV2Portfolio in a few minutes.
Frequently asked questions
What do I put in the experience section if I have none?
Rename it to "Projects" or "Experience & Projects" and list internships, projects, volunteering and freelance work with the same detail you would give a job.
Should I include school achievements?
Early in your career, yes, if they are strong and relevant — such as olympiad ranks or leadership roles. Remove them as college and work achievements replace them.
